Dihexylamine is an acyclic secondary amine with the hexyl groups attached to the nitrogen atom, which offers a useful combination of long-chain hydrophobicity and reactive amine functionality. It is the long-chain structure that provides excellent oil solubility, emulsification, wetting, and scattering properties, whereas the secondary amino group contributes to moderate alkalinity and good chemical reactivity. Dihexylamine readily participate in condensation, addition, and formation of salt reactions. This makes it a flexible intermediate for industrial formations and organic synthesis. It is supplied as a colourless, clear liquid with stable chemical properties and is suitable for applications which require effective oil-phase compatibility and amine functionality.
